Tilarán is the eighth canton in the province of Guanacaste in Costa Rica. The canton surrounds Lake Arenal (Laguna de Arenal) except for the lake’s southeast end, which belongs to the province of Alajuela. The northern border is in the Cordillera de Guanacaste, touching the Río Corobicí at its northernmost limits. The south part of the canton is in the Cordillera de Tilarán. The city of Tilarán is located just 5 km south of Lake Arenal at an altitude of 564 meters above sea level, and has a large influx of national and foreign tourists, as it is the exact point where the roads that connect the Daniel Oduber Airport of Liberia, Monteverde and the Arenal Volcano. From this city it is possible to see the Miravalles and Tenorio volcanoes and from a few kilometers to the east you can also see the Arenal volcano.
